During his visit to ICEF, Sergey Tsyplakov, a professor in finance at Moore School of Business of the University of South Carolina, delivered a lecture to students and contributed to ICEF-CInSt 11th International Moscow Finance Conference as a keynote speaker. In this interview, Sergey shares what surprised him about ICEF students, why scientific paper reviewing may not always be objective, and why people on Wall Street read academic research.

On October 20, the School of Asian Studies of the HSE University Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs will host the talk ‘Holy Sites Conflict in Palestine. Peace and Resolution’ delivered by Dr Ali al-Awar. In his interview, Dr al-Awar talks about the history and legacy of the conflict and explains how researchers can help find present-day solutions.

On October 6, Dr Wang Wen, Executive Dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies (RDCY) and Vice President of Silk Road School, Renmin University of China (RUC), will speak on 'China-Russia Cooperation: Opportunities and Challenges' at HSE University. In the run-up to the event, the HSE News Service talked to Dr Wang Wen about the current state of Sino-Russian economic relations.

In February and March, a specially commissioned series of open talks by professors from Goldsmiths, University of London, will be held online. Professor Anna Furse, Co-Director of the HSE PeARL Performance Research Lab, will be hosting the lectures. In the first session (on February 3), Professor Atau Tanaka will speak about embodied musical interactions.

On February 10, Dr. Choong-Yong Ahn, Distinguished Professor of Economics of the Graduate School of International Studies (Chung-Ang University, Seoul) will take part in an online meeting of the Economic Policy Discussion Club organized by HSE University. He will talk about Korea’s economic development and the country’s astonishingly rapid and effective industrialization. Dr Ahn has spoken with HSE News Service about factors that have contributed to Korea’s success and the role of government in steering the Korean economy.

This December, HSE University’s Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities hosted Professor Juliane Fürst, from Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History, who gave a lecture about Soviet hippies and the Soviet Flower Power. In an interview with HSE News Service, Professor Fürst spoke about her interest in Soviet subcultures and her research plans.

What issues can modern economics help address? How can economists shape government policies? What languages should an economist speak? These are some of the questions Professor Alain Paquet of the University of Quebec at Montreal will talk about at the upcoming meeting of the Discussion Club on Modern Economic Policy hosted by HSE University’s Faculty of Economic Science on November 11. The News Service has talked to Professor Paquet ahead of the lecture.

On October 20–22, the second International Conference on Experience Economy: Museum, Event, and Tourism Management was held at HSE University in Perm. Key talks were delivered by Andrea Rurale, the director of the Master’s in Arts Management and Administration at the Bocconi University School of Management, and Guillaume Tiberghien, University of Glasgow.
